Axel & Oltcit, the Citroëns of the East
For Citroën, the Oltcit and Axel were disastrous. Brand-new examples broke down constantly, leaked oil, lost parts, suffered from far too much fuel consumption, or even spontaneously caught fire.
Historically, however, the Oltcit and Axel are very interesting. They are the very last models from the Michelin era: the final design to be developed entirely without Peugeot’s influence. The Oltcit and Axel also have a long and fascinating story of their origins, intertwined not only with Peugeot’s takeover of Citroën, but also rife with political intrigue and industrial espionage between East and West.
Compared with Citrovisie’s first Axel book, this new book has been updated and features countless new photographs and a great deal of additional visual material. To cater to readers who do not speak Dutch, this edition has been translated into French by Citroën expert Axel Bornand.
